Alexa loves... Texture

Only just realised this post from months ago didn't upload properly so I'm re-posting it for you now.

When designing I realised I wanted to use interesting textures in my dress to make it  feel as good as it looks. So I looked on Pinterest at different textured pieces and found these.

These are rather complicated pieces but I worked out how I could make them into something I could do.

For the first one I simply went with felting. Which can be quite a time consuming thing to do but it is really effective and feels great.

It's quite hard to create nice neat picture with felt so I went with just using one colour on the witch hazel part of my dress.

I also used puff binding to create a carnation on white cotton. I was not sure if I liked hand painting or screen printing the best at first but I went with screen printing as it looks neater.

I used quilting on my dahlia to create a nice textured feel. It is quite a time consuming thing to do but the effect it gives is great. I hand painted one of the quilted dahlia on felt when experimenting inspired by costumes I saw at the theatre museum in Milan.

And that's a little insight into my texture ideas.
